Гомоніла Україна,

Довго гомоніла,

Довго, довго кров степами

Текла-червоніла.

Текла, текла та й висохла.

Степи зеленіють;

Діди лежать, а над ними

Могили синіють.

Та що з того, що високі?

Ніхто їх не знає,

Ніхто щиро не заплаче,

Ніхто не згадає.

Тілько вітер тихесенько

Повіє над ними,

Тілько роси ранесенько

Сльозами дрібними

їх умиють.

Зійде сонце,

Осушить, пригріє;

А унуки?

їм байдуже,

Панам жито сіють.

Багато їх, а хто скаже,

Де Гонти могила, —

Мученика праведного

Де похоронили?

Де Залізняк, душа щира,

Де одпочиває?

Тяжко!

важко!

Кат панує,

А їх не згадають.

Гомоніла Україна,

Довго гомоніла,

Довго, довго кров степами

Текла-червоніла.

І день, і ніч гвалт, гармати;

Земля стогне, гнеться;

Сумно, страшно, а згадаєш —

Серце усміхнеться.

Long gossip,

Long, long blood in the steppes

It flowed red.

It flowed, flowed and dried up.

The steppes are green;

Grandfathers lie, and over them

The graves are blue.

So what about being tall?

Nobody knows them,

No one will sincerely cry,

Nobody will remember.

Only the wind is quiet

Blow over them,

Only dew early

Small tears

they are washed.

The sun will rise

Drains, warms;

And the grandchildren?

they don't care

Gentlemen sow rye.

Many of them, and who will say

De Gaunt's grave, -

The martyr of the righteous

Where was he buried?

Where Zaliznyak, sincere soul,

Where is he resting?

Heavily!

hard!

The executioner reigns,

And they will not be remembered.

Homonila Ukraine,

Long gossip,

Long, long blood in the steppes

It flowed red.

And day and night violence, guns;

The earth groans, bends;

Sad, scary, and remember -

The heart will smile.
