Дышит осень незаметно на деревья и кусты —

И от ветра и без ветра опадают с них листы.

И листом осенним с неба в море падает звезда;

Не вернуться ей на небо, не вернуться никогда.

А водопад — он не то что листопад.

Не печалит он, а радует там, где падает;

Водопад не листопад, водопад не звездопад —

Он веселый от макушки и до пят.

Водопад, падай всласть!

Можно пасть, чтоб не упасть,

И упасть, чтобы не пасть и все на свете не проклясть.

И грохочет водопад, и хохочет невпопад,

Словно хочет в этой пропасти пропасть.

Ручеек стремится в пропасть — грозной бездны патриот:

Разве в пропасть нужен пропуск?

Пропусти его вперед!

Но едва преодолеет он запретную черту —

Обомлеет, обмелеет, спрячет камешки во рту.

А водопад, как веселый акробат, вызываемый на «бис»,

Летит, летит с уступа вниз…

Водопад не листопад, водопад не звездопад —

Он веселый от макушки и до пят.

Водопад, падай всласть!

Можно пасть, чтоб не упасть,

И упасть, чтобы не пасть и все на свете не проклясть.

…И грохочет водопад, и хохочет водопад, —

Силы жизни, силы счастья в нем кипят.

Autumn breathes imperceptibly on trees and bushes -

And from the wind and without the wind, sheets fall from them.

And like an autumn leaf a star falls from the sky into the sea;

She will not return to heaven, never return.

And a waterfall is not like a leaf fall.

He does not grieve, but rejoices where he falls;

A waterfall is not a fall of leaves, a waterfall is not a starfall -

He is cheerful from head to toe.

Waterfall, fall to your heart's content!

You can fall, so as not to fall,

And fall, so as not to fall and not to curse everything in the world.

And the waterfall rumbles, and laughs out of place,

As if he wants to fall into this abyss.

The brook tends to the abyss - the formidable abyss of a patriot:

Does the abyss need a pass?

Let him go ahead!

But as soon as he overcomes the forbidden line -

It will become stupefied, shallow, hide the pebbles in the mouth.

And the waterfall, like a cheerful acrobat called for an encore,

It flies, flies down from the ledge...

A waterfall is not a fall of leaves, a waterfall is not a starfall -

He is cheerful from head to toe.

Waterfall, fall to your heart's content!

You can fall, so as not to fall,

And fall, so as not to fall and not to curse everything in the world.

... And the waterfall rumbles, and the waterfall laughs, -

The forces of life, the forces of happiness boil in him.
