Ti avvicinasti piano

Col pathos di un notturno:

Sotto il sole un pieno di gente

Ma si fece buio presto intorno

E avvinti e immemori ci baciammo;

e poi…

Qual ghigno ingenerò l’inganno!

Te ne andasti come fumo

In fosforescenti spire

Ma non c’era più nessuno attorno

Al risveglio della luce.

E infine

Avvinto e immemore mi addormentai

Ma quante risa, poi, giù nel sonno!

You approached slowly

With the pathos of a nocturne:

Full of people under the sun

But it soon got dark around

And bound and forgetful we kissed;

then…

What a grin I will create the deception!

You left like smoke

In phosphorescent coils

But there was no one around anymore

When the light awakens.

And finally

Overwhelmed and forgetful, I fell asleep

But how much laughter, then, down in sleep!
