Галина Вишневская (full name: Галина Павловна Вишневская , née Галина Павловна Иванова ) was a Soviet and Russian opera singer, born on October 25, 1926, in the USSR. She was one of the leading sopranos of her time, performing roles at such theaters as Большой театр . Vishnevskaya collaborated with prominent conductors, including Мстислава Ростроповича , her husband. Her awards included the title of People's Artist of the USSR and the Order of Lenin. Her repertoire included works of world classics, from Чайковского to Верди . Галина Вишневская made a significant contribution to the development of opera, remaining a symbol of high performing mastery. She died on December 11, 2012.
