
Александр Вертинский (1889–1957) was a Russian and Soviet pop artist, composer, poet, and singer born in Kiev (then part of the Russian Empire). Working in the romance genre, he became a pop icon in the first half of the 20th century. Вертинский performed in Russia, Greece, and the USSR, and also appeared in films. His work included such well-known songs as "Ваши пальцы пахнут ладаном" and "Доченька" In 1951, he was awarded the Stalin Prize, Second Class. Александр Вертинский had a significant influence on the development of the romance genre, leaving a lasting mark on 20th-century musical culture.
