Ray Charles (born September 23, 1930, in the United States—died June 10, 2004) was an American singer and pianist who performed music in various genres. He was particularly renowned as one of the founders of the soul and rhythm and blues styles. Among his best-known songs are "Georgia on My Mind" and "Hit the Road Jack" His contributions to the development of American music made him one of the key figures of the post-war era.
