
Lord Kitchener (born April 18, 1922, Trinidad and Tobago—died February 11, 2000) was a prominent calypsonian, called "the great master of calypso." His work spanned the genres of Latin American music and reggae. Lord Kitchener became known for hits such as "London Is the Place for Me" which reflected his experience emigrating to the United Kingdom. His contributions to the development of calypso made him one of the key figures in the genre's postwar era. Lord Kitchener left an indelible mark on the musical culture of Trinidad and Tobago.
