
Charles Mingus (1922–1979) was an American jazz bassist and composer born in the United States. His work combined elements of hard bop, gospel, free jazz, and classical music, making his works unique. Mingus collaborated with such prominent musicians as Duke Ellington and Charlie Parker and released iconic albums, including "Mingus Ah Um" His compositions, such as "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat" have become jazz standards.
