He rose to prominence as a leading traditional jazz performer, particularly for his collaborations with Count Basie Orchestra in the 1930s and 1940s. His most famous recordings include "Jumpin' at the Woodside" and "Sentimental Journey" Buck Clayton also worked with legends such as Billie Holiday and Duke Ellington .
