Schwarze Augen, schwarzes Haar

Sie lebte ganz am Rand der Stadt

Niemand wusste, wer sie war

Es kam nur der, der Sehnsucht hat

Wenn man sie auf der Straße traf

Schimpfte man, verfluchte sie

Manchmal man auch Steine warf

In der Kirche war sie nie

Fühlte mich zu ihr hingezogen

Es kribbelte, wenn ich sie sah

Es wallten in mir Hitzewogen

Wenn sie nur in meiner Nähe war

Mein Vater sagte: «Lass das sein!

Das Weib ist keine Frau für dich

Sie ist anders, nicht mehr rein

Hör auf das, was dein Vater spricht!»

Mit Pergament und Federkiel

Schrieb ich ihr Liebesbriefe

Schlich bei Dunkelheit hinaus

Und hab sie ihr gebracht

Seitdem sitz' ich am Fenster

Will mich stürzen in die Tiefe

Denn es hatte keinen Sinn

Sie hätte es nur für Geld gemacht
