Ich steh am Straßenrand und komm wohl niemals weg von hier.

Ich bin schon lange da, doch keiner nimmt Notiz von mir.

Ich bin nicht hässlicher als andre, die in schönen Gärten stehn,

doch die Menschen müssen das wohl anders sehn.

Ich war zum Glück, noch nie allein,

kann in der Frühlingssonne wachsen und gedeihn,

und hier am Straßenrand ist das Leben,

hier ist immer etwas los,

wir blühen auf, wir wachsen schnell, wir werden groß.

Fahrt nur vorbei,

wenn ihr so sehr in Eile seid.

Fahrt nur vorbei,

ich bleibe hier, ich habe Zeit.

Fahrt nur vorbei,

fahrt nur vorbei.

Ich bleibe hier und bin auf meine Weise frei.

Ich seh mir eure Wagen an mit ihrer teuren Fracht.

Ich habe nichts, drum kann man mir nichts stehlen in der Nacht.

Nur wenn der Wind am Abend meine Kinder in die Ferne trägt,

bin ich ein kleines bisschen aufgeregt.

Eins bleibt als Trost zurück für mich:

Sie sind noch lange da und wichtiger als ich.

Sie schlagen ihre tiefen Wurzeln überall im ganzen Land

Und denken bald schon so wie ich am Straßenrand:

I've been there for a long time, but nobody takes any notice of me.

I am not uglier than others who stand in beautiful gardens,

but people must see it differently.

Luckily I've never been alone

can grow and thrive in the spring sun,

and here at the roadside is life,

There is always something going on,

we blossom, we grow fast, we get big.

I'm staying here and I'm free in my own way.

I look at your wagons with their expensive freight.

I have nothing, so nothing can be stolen from me at night.

Only when the wind carries my children far away in the evening,

i'm a little bit excited.

One consolation remains for me:

They're here for a long time and more important than me.

They strike their deep roots all over the country

And will soon be thinking like me on the roadside:

what you think is surely correct.

I don't ask for the meaning.

Enjoy the last evening sun

while I'm still a dandelion.
