Der Fluß - Blumfeld

Seht wie er fließt

Von der quelle zum meer

Sprudelt und schießt

Aus der ferne hierher

Er dringt aus dem stein

Fast schüchtern und schwach

Entspringt nicht allein

Wird vom rinnsal zum bach

Plätschert und rauscht

Durch die wälder ins tal

Dreht seine bahn

Und die flöße sie fahren

Auf dem strom

An ruinen vorbei

Wellen toben

So erhaben und frei

Horcht wie er tönt

Wie er wirbelt und raunt

Röchelt und stöhnt!

Spürt den sog und erstaunt!

Er spielt mit dem licht

Und glänzt wie metall

Bis die tiefe ihn bricht

Zum tosenden fall

Wo er sprüht und zerstäubt

Und die ohren betäubt

Wenn er glitzert und schäumt

Hält er was er verspricht

Und wird strom

An den dörfern vorbei

Wellen toben

So gefährlich und frei

Zieht der strom

Gelassen und schwer

Auf und davon

Auf ins offene meer

Seht wie es gießt

Aus den wolken hervor

Der kreislauf sich schließt

Am felsquellentor!

Er versinkt im gestein

Und entspringt wieder neu

Der fluss bleibt uns fremd

Und sich selber nur treu

Weil er fließt

See how it flows

From the source to the sea

Bubbles and shoots

Here from afar

He penetrates out of the stone

Almost shy and weak

Does not arise alone

Becomes from a trickle to a stream

Splashes and rustles

Through the woods into the valley

rotates its path

And the rafts they ride

On the stream

Past ruins

waves are raging

So sublime and free

Listen how he sounds

How he whirls and whispers

Roars and moans!

Feel the pull and be amazed!

He plays with the light

And shines like metal

Until the deep breaks him

To the roaring fall

Where it sprays and atomizes

And the ears are deafened

When it glitters and foams

Does he keep what he promises

And becomes electricity

Past the villages

waves are raging

So dangerous and free

the current pulls

Serene and heavy

Up and away

On to the open sea

See how it pours

Out of the clouds

The cycle closes

At the rock spring gate!

He sinks in the rock

And springs up again

The river remains alien to us

And only true to yourself

Because it flows
