Thad Jones Jones was an American jazz trumpeter, composer, and arranger born in 1923 in Pontiac, USA. He rose to prominence as a member of the Count Basie Orchestra, where his arrangements and solos received widespread acclaim. In 1965, he and drummer Mel Lewis founded Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra , which later became known as Vanguard Jazz Orchestra . His well-known compositions include "A Child Is Born" and "Tiptoe" His contributions to jazz music, particularly in the field of big bands, remain significant and inspire musicians worldwide.
