Hubert Sumlin (1931–2011) was an American guitarist and singer known for his work in the Chicago blues genre. Born in the United States, he gained fame as a key member of Howlin' Wolf's band, where his distinctive guitar style—marked by sharp, crackling bursts of notes, unexpected silences, and daring rhythmic shifts—became legendary. His contributions can be heard on iconic tracks like "Smokestack Lightning" and "Spoonful". Over his career, he influenced countless musicians and was recognized with multiple accolades, including a posthumous induction into the Blues Hall of Fame.
