George Gershwin (real name Яков Гершвин ) was an American composer and pianist born in 1898 in the United States. He worked in the genres of jazz, world classical music, and traditional jazz. Gershwin became known for his works that combined elements of classical music and jazz. Among his most famous works are "Rhapsody in Blue" the opera "Porgy and Bess" and the symphonic poem "An American in Paris" His work had a significant influence on the development of American music, making him one of the most prominent composers of the 20th century.
