Chuck D is an American rapper, songwriter, and producer, born in 1960. As the leader of the rap group Public Enemy , founded in 1985 with Flavor Flav , he became one of the pioneers of politically and socially conscious hip-hop. During his career Chuck D also experimented with rock music, participating in the rap-rock groups Confrontation Camp and Prophets of Rage . The latter included musicians from Cypress Hill and Rage Against the Machine . The Source magazine ranked him 12th on its list of the 50 greatest hip-hop artists of all time. Chuck D has had a significant influence on the development of socially conscious hip-hop.
