
Astrud Gilberto (born March 29, 1940, Salvador, Brazil – died June 5, 2023) was a Brazilian and American pop singer known for her bossa nova performances. She rose to international fame in the 1960s with the song "The Girl from Ipanema" which became a classic of the genre. Astrud Gilberto collaborated with such prominent musicians as Stan Getz and João Gilberto and recorded for labels including Verve Records . Her soft vocals and unique style contributed significantly to the popularization of bossa nova outside of Brazil.
