Wie der Tennisball, der es hasst, wenn man ihn schlägt,

wie das Rettungsboot, das schweren Seegang nicht verträgt,

wie der Ventilator, der träumt, dass irgendjemand ihn kühlt,

wie das Steuerrecht, das sich unverstanden fühlt,

wie der Kunde, der gerne einmal König wär',

wie der Goethetext, der wünscht, er wäre weniger schwer,

wie der Pfosten, der träumt, er ginge auch mal ins Tor,

genau so kommst auch du mir manchmal vor.

Doch du kannst nicht alles haben!

Manches kann dir dieses Leben

eben einfach nicht geben.

Du kannst nicht alles haben,

aber ganz gelegentlich

scheint die Sonne auch für dich!

Wie die Pauke, die wünscht, sie wäre weniger laut,

wie der Trabbi, der hofft, dass irgendjemand ihn klaut,

wie das Schaufenster, das es nicht mag, wenn man’s begafft,

wie die Reform, die hofft, sie trete irgendwann mal in Kraft,

wie das Würstchen auf dem Grill, das es hasst, wenn man es wendet,

wie die Warteschleife, die hofft, dass sie bald endet,

wie das Fünf-Cent-Stück, das träumt, irgendjemand hebt es auf,

genau so bist auch du sehr häufig drauf.

Doch du kannst nicht alles haben!

Manches kann dir dieses Leben

eben einfach nicht geben.

Du kannst nicht alles haben,

aber ganz gelegentlich

scheint die Sonne auch für dich!

Wie die Joker, die sich wünschen, sie wärn ganz normale Karten,

wie Godot, der hofft, dass seine Kumpels nicht mehr auf ihn warten,

wie der Eisbär, der auf seiner Scholle sitzt

und gerne einmal wissen würde, wie das ist, wenn man schwitzt …

Doch du kannst nicht alles haben…

…es gibt einfach ein paar Sachen,

da kannst du nur drüber lachen

und das Beste draus machen.

like the fan that dreams someone is cooling it

like the tax law that feels misunderstood,

like the customer who would like to be king one day,

like the Goethe text, wishing it were less difficult,

like the post that dreams of going into the goal,

that's exactly how you seem to me sometimes.

But you can't have everything!

This life can do some things for you

just don't give.

You can not have everything,

but very occasionally

the sun shines for you too!

Like the drum that wishes it were less loud

like the Trabbi that hopes someone will steal it

like the shop window that doesn't like it when you stare at it,

like the reform that hopes to come into force at some point,

like the sausage on the grill that hates it when you turn it

like the queue hoping it ends soon

like the dime that dreams someone picks it up

that's exactly how you are very often.

But you can't have everything!

This life can do some things for you

just don't give.

You can not have everything,

but very occasionally

the sun shines for you too!

Like the jokers who wish they were just regular cards

like Godot hoping his buddies won't wait for him anymore

like the polar bear sitting on its floe

and would like to know what it's like when you sweat...

But you can't have everything...

...there are just a few things

you can only laugh about it

and make the best of it.
