Tief ist die Nacht und das Licht wird knapp

Schweigt still, seht euch vor

Rot scheint der Geistermond hinab

Die Toten sind heute erwacht, tanzen um uns’ren Dächern

Und aus mancher Grube da lacht ein verlorener Zecher

Rasselnde Leiber sie drehn sich im Kreise herum

Die Meute der ruhlosen Geister geht heute Nacht um

Sie kratzen und schaben an unseren Türen und Fenstern

Sie singen ein schauriges Lied von verfluchten Gespenstern

Sie suchen die Wärme des Feuers und in ihrem Spuk

Sehnen sie sich nach Gesellschaft und manch vollem Krug

Es wandeln auf den Straßen all jene wir vergaßen

Drum schließet Tür und Tor

Die Tore der Anderswelt stehen seit Mitternacht offen

Und mancher der atmet verfällt still ins Bangen und Hoffen

Dass an seinem Hause kein reisender Toter verkehrt

Und durstig nach Leben und Wein an der Türklinke zerrt

Es wandeln auf den Straßen all jene wir vergaßen

Ich verstecke mich nicht gern und bin auch nicht gerne still

Darum lasse ich die Geisterscharen rein

Der wer durstig ist und klopft und wer gerne feiern will

Soll in meinem Haus willkommen sein

Ob grottig oder hübsch, ob faulig oder frisch

Wie die Gäste ausseh’n ist mir ganz egal

Heute tanzen wir vergnügt mit den Toten auf dem Tisch

Feiern so als wär's das allerletzte Mal

And out of many a pit a lost reveler laughs

Rattling bodies they turn around in circles

The pack of restless spirits roam tonight

They scratch and scrape at our doors and windows

They sing a scary song about cursed ghosts

They seek the warmth of fire and in their hauntings

Do they long for company and many a full mug

Close the door and gate

The night is deep and the light is scarce

Shut up, be careful

The ghost moon shines red down

All those we forgot walk the streets

Drum closes the door and gate

The gates of the Otherworld have been open since midnight

And some who breathe quietly fall into fear and hope

That no traveling dead frequents his house

And tugs at the doorknob, thirsty for life and wine

I don't like to hide and I don't like to be quiet

That's why I let the ghosts in

The one who is thirsty and knocks and who likes to party

Should be welcome in my house

Whether grotesque or pretty, rotten or fresh

I don't care what the guests look like

Today we dance happily with the dead on the table

Celebrate like it's the very last time
