Служитель Бога, как я рад,

Что случай нам послал тебя:

Старинный должен совершить

Обряд.

Никто не вправе осуждать

Тебя, если откажешь ты,

Но люди больше не хотят

Страдать.

В старой церкви, что в лесной глуши

За упокой грешной её души

На протяженьи трёх ночей

Молитвы будешь ты читать над ней

На закате того дня

В церковь отвели меня,

И лишь я за порог ступил

Ногой

С лязгом вниз упал засов,

Повернулся ключ в замке

Двери были заперты

За мной.

Предстало взору моему

Тело женское в гробу,

Но как была покойница

Нежна!

Луч солнца, заходя, блеснул,

По лицу её скользнул -

Будто бы была жива

Она.

Но вот над городом спустилась ночь,

И вера в Бога лишь могла помочь:

Ведь от того, что видел я,

Кровь в жилах застывала у меня.

Покойница встала,

Меня увидала,

Холодные руки

Тянуть ко мне стала.

Под куполом церкви

Она воспарила,

Ещё бы немного -

И вовсе убила.

Но вот помог

Спастись мне рассвет

И крик петуха,

Что о нём возвестил.

Думал, не увижу Я

вновь белый свет

Веру в Бога во мне

случай тот возродил.

Церковь эта, что в лесной глуши,

Приютом стала для её души.

И лишь ценой седых волос

Спокойствие я в их дома принёс.

Servant of God, how glad I am

That chance sent you to us:

Rite.

Nobody has the right to judge

In the old church, in the wilderness

For the repose of her sinful soul

For three nights

Prayers will you read over it

At the sunset of that day

They took me to church

And only I stepped over the threshold

Appeared to my eyes

Body of a woman in a coffin

But how was the deceased

Tender!

A ray of sun, setting, flashed,

Slipped over her face -

Like she was alive

She is.

But night fell over the city,

And faith in God could only help:

After all, from what I saw,

The blood in my veins froze.

The deceased got up

saw me

Cold hands

It started pulling towards me.

Under the dome of the church

She soared

A little more -

And completely killed.

But it helped

Save me the dawn

And the crowing of a rooster

What he announced.

I thought I wouldn't see

white light again

Faith in God in me

the case revived.

This church, in the wilderness,

She became a haven for her soul.

And only at the cost of gray hair

I brought peace to their homes.
