Ich stand im Schatten eines Grabes

Am Hang in kalter Nacht

Ein Bild war in den Stein gehauen

Und hat mich ausgelacht

Es sang ein Lied von Harmonie

Beschrieb die Berge und das Meer

Es zog mich in die klaren Lüfte

Und verriet mir so viel mehr

Ich vernahm den stillen Ruf der Vögel

Sah die Blüten und das Gras

Um mir das warme Licht, die frischen Wolken

Doch da war etwas, das ich vergaß

Die Idylle blendete mein Augenlicht

Es war zu schön, was ich erfuhr

Und erkennend hab ich aufgesehen

Es fehlte menschliche Natur

So stand ich da, wie schon zuvor

Und mir war kalt

Ich drehte um, wies ihm den Rücken

Und hörte weiter, wie das Lachen schallt

An image was carved into the stone

And laughed at me

It sang a song of harmony

Described the mountains and the sea

I was drawn into the clear air

And told me so much more

I heard the silent call of the birds

Saw the flowers and the grass

Around me the warm light, the fresh clouds

But there was something I forgot

The idyll blinded my eyesight

It was too nice what I found out

And I looked up knowingly

It lacked human nature

So I stood there, like before

And I was cold

I turned and turned my back on him
