Nichts ist auf diesem Erdenball

Das nicht Erinnerung an dich wäre

Dein Bild verfolgt mich überall

Ich seh in Rosen deine Wangen

Ich seh in Lilien deine Hand

In Nelken deine Lippen prangen

Und in den Tulpen dein Gewand

Sieh in dem Veilchen, das vom Strauche

Beschattet blüht den holden Blick

Fühl deinen Kuss in Zephyrs Hauche

Und sehne mich zu dir zurück

Ihr danket Flammen euer Sein

Doch ich geb euch den Flammen wieder

Kein Bild mehr will ich sehn von dir

Vergessen deine Liebeslieder

Ich gehe von dem grünen Hügel

Hinab zum perlenklaren Bach

Ich seh dein Bild im Wasserspiegel

Und folg ihm unwillkürlich nach

Und fliehts mich gleich auf Augenblicke

So such ich‘s ängstlich wieder auf

Wünsch immer meinen Schmerz zurücke

Und reiße meine Wunden auf

Down to the pearly brook

I see your picture in the water mirror
