Ik ken dit uitzicht uit mijn raam, de bomen

De straat met al die huizen aan weerszij

Ik ken de meeste mensen die er wonen

Vaag zeg ik ze gedag en zij groeten mij

Dit uitzicht door dit raam in deze kamer

De boeken langs de muur, het schilderij

Waar jij niet dol op was, de bank, de tafel

Het staat en hangt er nog steeds net zo bij

Alles is hetzelfde

Hetzelfde verhaal

Nagenoeg hetzelfde

Maar net niet helemaal

Net niet helemaal

Ik probeer te kijken met dezelfde ogen

Maar alles staart me stom en zinloos aan

Alsof glans en gloed voorgoed vervlogen

De ziel uit alles is weggegaan

Alles is hetzelfde

Haast hetzelfde lied

Alleen was jij er toen wel

En nu ben jij er niet

Iedereen lijkt nog steeds hetzelfde te doen

Toch is het anders, heel anders dan toen

Alles lijkt nog bij het oude te zijn

Maar nu doet het pijn, nu doet het pijn

Alles is hetzelfde

Hetzelfde verhaal

Nagenoeg hetzelfde

Maar net niet helemaal

Alles is hetzelfde

Haast hetzelfde lied

Alleen was jij er toen wel

I know this view from my window, the trees

The street with all those houses on either side

I know most of the people who live there

Vaguely I say goodbye to them and they greet me

This view through this window in this room

The books along the wall, the painting

What you didn't love, the sofa, the table

It still stands and hangs just as

I try to see with the same eyes

But everything stares at me stupidly and meaninglessly

As if shine and glow gone forever

The soul has gone out of everything
