Много-много лет

Скрывался от науки.

- Такого зверя в мире нет!

Так утверждал ученый-дед,

А вслед за ним и внуки...

Когда же заявлял порой

Охотник темнокожий,

Что в джунглях все же есть такой,

Слегка с жирафом схожий,

И даже (добавлял Пигмей

Из племени Ма-Дзапи)

Я лично ел таких зверей...

Мы их зовем окапи.

- Да это просто анекдот!

Негодовал ученый.

Как может быть, что зверь живет,

Наукой не учтенный?

Перед наукой ты - пигмей!

И, значит,

Явились правнуки на свет,

В ином зоосаду

Гуляют по вольере

У любопытных на виду

Диковинные звери.

Они красивы и стройны,

У них глубокий, кроткий взгляд,

Глаза их

Словно говорят:

"Науке многое дано.
