Sada ležiš na dnu vode,

Iznad tebe šaš i trava,

Kao leptir koji ode,

Kao dijete koje spava.

Nikad nije tvoje lice

U snu bilo tako bijelo,

Kao krilo mrtve ptice

Rijekom plovi tvoje tijelo.

Dok te ljulja val za valom

Sanjaš da si opet živa,

Slatki bol u srcu malom

Tvoje nježne nade skriva.

Na svom ležaju od mulja

Tvoje mrtvo srce sanja,

Dok te ruka vode ljulja

Tiho ploviš ispod granja.

Kao ljiljan ti si pala

U taj hladni ponor vode,

Cvijeće koje tu si brala

S tobom plovi, s tobom ode.

Dok iz tamnog groba svoga

Gledaš srne što te prate,

Dok iz šume pjesma roga

Poput kiše pada na te…

Ispod vode, iz svog mraka,

Prije sna i prije zime,

Ti ćeš čuti glas dječaka

Koji zove tvoje ime.

Sada ležiš na dnu vode,

Iznad tebe šaš i trava,

Kao leptir koji ode,

Kao dijete koje spava…

Now you're lying on the bottom of the water,

Above you are sedges and grass,

Like a butterfly that goes away,

Like a sleeping child.

It's never your face

In the dream it was so white,

Like the wing of a dead bird

Your body floats on the river.

As you are rocked by wave after wave

You dream of being alive again,

Sweet pain in the little heart

It hides your tender hopes.

On his bed of mud

Your dead heart dreams,

As the hand of water shakes you

You sail quietly under the branches.

You fell like a lily

Into that cold abyss of water,

The flowers you picked there

He sails with you, he goes with you.

While from his dark grave

You watch the deer following you,

While from the forest a song of horns

Like rain it falls on you…

Under the water, out of its darkness,

Before sleep and before winter,

You will hear the boy's voice

Who calls your name.

Now you're lying on the bottom of the water,
