Un jour, soleil d’oiseau, l’horizon craqua ses nuages

Pour lui offrir un beau piano, un beau piano…

Un jour, sans dire un mot, comme le font les enfants sages

L’enfant se mit à son piano… son beau piano

Et l’enfant joua pour les printemps, pour les nuages

Et l’enfant joua pour les étoiles sur la mer;

Un enfant, un enfant de cinq ans, soudain, s’est avancé

Et le monde, le monde interdit eut le souffle coupé !

Un jour, soleil d’oiseau, à l’heure des livres d’images

L’enfant se mit à son piano, son beau piano…

Un jour, avant les mots, et comme tout premier langage

L’enfant joua sur son piano… son beau piano

Et l’on promena l’enfant-génie de ville en ville

Et l’on exhiba l’enfant-défi à l’univers

Pour un monde crevant sous l’absurde des contre-vérités

Sous les doigts de l’enfant ont fleuri des cris de pureté !

The child went to his piano, his beautiful piano...

One day, before words, and as the very first language

The child played on his piano… his beautiful piano

And we took the child-genius from city to city

And we exhibited the child-challenge to the universe

For a world dying under the absurdity of untruths

Under the child's fingers bloomed cries of purity!

One day, bird's sun, the horizon cracked its clouds

To give him a beautiful piano...
