В сапёрной части я служил, там, где берёзы и метель.

Читал в газетах про Алжир.

Он был за тридевять земель.

И вдруг Алжир меня зовёт освободить страну от мин:

Кто доброволец — шаг вперёд!

Шагнули все, не я один.

Так всю жизнь готов шагать по миру я.

Верные товарищи со мной.

Я до основанья разминирую

Наш многострадальный шар земной.

Не брал оружия с собой.

В далёкий путь я только взял,

Я только взял в тот мирный бой миноискатели и трал.

Прошёл я с ними весь Алжир, мне было выше всех наград,

Что будет здесь цвести инжир, светиться будет виноград.

Был ранен взрывом командир.

Глушил нас гром, душил нас зной.

И стала мне страна Алжир нежданно близкой и родной.

Я про Алжир люблю прочесть депеши утренних газет.

Читаю и горжусь, что есть на той земле мой добрый след.

He was far away.

And suddenly Algeria calls me to liberate the country from mines:

Who is a volunteer - step forward!

Everyone took a step, I'm not the only one.

So all my life I am ready to walk around the world.

Faithful comrades are with me.

I did not take weapons with me.

On a long journey I just took

I just took mine detectors and a trawl into that peaceful battle.

I went with them all of Algeria, I was above all awards,

That figs will bloom here, grapes will glow.

The commander was wounded by the explosion.

The thunder choked us, the heat choked us.

And the country of Algeria suddenly became close and dear to me.

I like to read morning newspaper dispatches about Algeria.

I read and I am proud that there is my good mark on that earth.
