
Tennessee Ernie Ford (1919–1991) was an American singer known for his country and gospel music. Hailing from the United States, he rose to stardom with his hit "Sixteen Tons" which in 1955 reached number one on the Billboard country chart for 10 weeks and eight weeks on the pop chart. The song remains a classic of working-class music.
