Merle Travis (full name: Мерл Роберт Трэвис) was an American country and western artist born on November 29, 1917, in the United States. Known for his unique guitar-playing style, which blended fingerstyle, country, and folk influences from Western Kentucky, he left an indelible mark on the genre. His lyrics often addressed the struggles of coal miners, reflecting his roots and the hardships of working-class life. Merle Travis was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970 and the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1977. His innovative guitar techniques continue to influence musicians worldwide. He passed away on October 20, 1983.
