Lorin Maazel (full name: Lorin Varencove Maazel ) is an American conductor, violinist, and composer, born March 6, 1930, in the United States. He was one of the most prominent conductors of the 20th century, collaborating with leading orchestras around the world, including New York Philharmonic and Vienna Philharmonic . Maazel was also known as the composer of the opera 1984, based on George Orwell's novel. Throughout his career, he received numerous awards and recognition for his contribution to world classical music. His interpretations of works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Mahler remain benchmarks.
