
Harry Belafonte was an American singer, actor, and social activist born in 1927. He earned the nickname "The King of Calypso" thanks to his album "Calypso" which became the first album in history to sell over a million copies. The album held the number one spot on Billboard 200 for 31 weeks. Beyond his music career, Belafonte was active in civil rights and social justice.
