Dorival Caymmi is a Brazilian bard, composer, and singer-songwriter, born in 1914 in Salvador, Brazil. His work spans Latin American and pop genres. Caymmi is known in Russia for his theme song to the film "The Generals of the Sand Quarries" and the song "Retirantes" used in the television series "Isaura the Slave." His contribution to Brazilian popular music is enormous, and he is considered one of its key figures. According to critic Бена Рэтлиффа , Caymmi is second only to Антониу Карлусу Жобину in creating Brazil's musical legacy. His work continues to inspire musicians and listeners worldwide.
