Behemoth is a Polish blackened death metal band formed in 1991 in Gdańsk. Initially a black metal band, the band began incorporating pagan elements and acoustic guitars in 1994. Since 1999, Behemoth has shifted its focus to death metal, abandoning pagan themes in favor of Satanism, occultism, and Middle Eastern mythology. The band's lyrics are also inspired by the ideas of Aleister Crowley. Behemoth is considered one of the key bands of the Polish extreme metal underground, having had a significant influence on the genre.
