“An industrious ‘Intelligent’ and respectable man’ ‘A friend of Humanity’ wrote a local journalist

And not just any, it was for The Vindicator

A Lower Canadian newspaper with assertive accents

Because you see, Alex Grant was an activist

Positive agitator, 19th century activist

bring back the girl

All followed them and watched them day and night

In order to prevent them from fleeing with the child to the United States

Grant and 2 others are charged with causing a riot

He hires Perrault the lawyer loyal to the patriot cause

Once in court, Betsy changed her testimony

Declaring that she was a servant, therefore returned to slavery

And Alex Grant, he was found not guilty

Could prove beyond doubt that the occupation was calm

One more thing, he sued for assault

Against Dr Arnoldi who kicked him in the ribs

He was ordered to pay him punitive damages.

And then dismissed until December 1836

Interesting application of justice

Given the defendant's position as a jurist

Alex Grant died 2 years later

When his horse reared and he fractured his skull
