Einst verirrte ich mich tief im düstersten Wald

Auf der Suche nach jeglichem Pfad

Und als fast mir die Hoffnung verloren schon galt

Ich doch bald eine Lichtung betrat

Dort spielte das Licht auf dem wiegenden Gras

Und inmitten von Blüten und Farn

Ein Wildfräulein schön wie ein Frühlingstag saß

Vom Zauber der Welt angetan

Und sie sprach: Sei nicht traurig und lausche dem Wind

Alles fließt, alles treibt, alles hat seine Zeit

Vergiss nie, dass wir Kinder des Augenblicks sind!

Der Moment hält ein Leben grad eben bereit!

Und willst du es hören so sag ich dir:

Wenn du gehen willst, geh

Wenn du bleiben willst, bleib

Wenn du tanzen willst, tanze mit mir!

Ihre Augen so lieblich, wie Veilchen so blau

Ihr Lächeln die sinnlichste Wonne

Ihre Haut war wie Schnee, roch nach Honig und Tau

Und ihr Haar glich den Strahlen der Sonne

Am zierlichen Leib trug sie nichts als ein Kleid

Fein gewebt aus Jasmin und Narzissen

Und sie zog mich hinab, mir vergangene Zeit

Und die Tränen vom Munde zu küssen

So gab ich mich leicht ihren Armen dahin

Sank hinab in des Wildfräuleins Schoß

Und tröstend verwehte mir Sorge und Sinn

Auf dem Lager aus Blüten und Moos

Ich träumte von Sommern und Wintern die fliehn

Und die Wirklichkeit um mich zerfloss

Und ich träumte von Jahren, die ohne mich ziehn

Während ich ihre Liebe genoss

Und als ich dann endlich die Augen aufschlug

War ich greise dem Tode schon nah

Und das Wildfräulein, das mir mein Leben vortrug

Strich mir lächelnd und zärtlich durchs Haar

Mancher Augenblick flieht, wie ein Leben geschwind

In dem Zauber des Wildfräuleins und seiner Zeit

Und willst du es hören, so sag ich dir:

Wenn du schreien willst, schrei!

Wenn du tanzen willst, tanze ein letztes Mal mit mir!

Und ich hauchte: Was soll ich denn weinen noch schrei’n?

Wäre ich in der Blüte der Jugend noch hier

Würd ich für ein Augenblick solchen allein

Gern mein Leben ein zweites Mal geben
