Det var Kristi himmelfärd, snön låg kvar trots våren

Jag var ute o lekte med bröderna Holm

Vi kom från Svarta havet, passerade Bosporen

På en å, i utkanten av Tidaholm

Börje Holm var äldst, två år äldre än Sören

Det fanns en katt ombord, med ett halsband om nacken

Den var bra att ha, för en katt hör mycket mer

Vi angjorde land, o tog med den svarta katten

Det hotade att blåsa upp till storm

Börje hade vässat en käpp, o fyllt en hink med vatten

När jag plötsligt fick syn på två män i arméns uniform

Plötsligt nös den mörke, o tappade sin mössa

Då stötte han till den andre, som tappade sin bössa

O jag minns att jag blev glad för svanens skull

Bössan föll i vattnet, o naturligvis blev den blöt

Dom tog bössan o mössan med sig, o gav sig av

Sen föll den första droppen, o jag tittade upp o beslöt

Att fälla upp kapuschongen o gå tillbaks
