Der Eselskönig - Tanzwut

Der Eselskönig kehret ein zu unserem heiligen Reigen,

Du sollst der Narren Herrscher sein, wir wollen uns verneigen.

Und hinter ihm in voller Pracht in überreicher Zahl,

Voran sieht man in bunter Tracht des Esels Kardinal.

Ihm folget des Tanzes Fürst am Tritt, dann Bacchus gleich ganz flott

Und nebenher Gambrinus Schritt, des Zechers lustiger Gott.

Dann kam ein Schalk, des Königs Narr, Thalia und Gott Pan,

Der heiteren Muse volle Schar mit ihren Spielen an.

Auf lustiges Volk, bis ganz zuletzt ein trauriges Bild sich bot,

Ein dürres Weib, das Kleid zerfetzt, es war die liebe Not.

Doch soll sie heut von Adel sein und eine Krone tragen,

Man gebe ihr vom besten Wein, man soll ihr nichts versagen.

The donkey king returns to our holy round dance,
