Когда, сменяясь, времена

Приводят к вертелу баранов,

Не мы ли славим имена

Очередных своих тиранов?

Освобождаясь от гвоздей,

Душа поет с распятий нотных:

«Чем больше знаю я людей,

Тем больше я люблю животных!»

Порой, забыв язык людской

И не внимая уговору,

Не мы ли собственной рукой

Спускаем бешеную свору?

Грызня враждующих идей

И бормотанье ртов зевотных…

Чем больше знаю я людей,

Тем больше я люблю животных!

Когда в пылу своих побед,

Звериным обликом пугая,

Толпа желает слушать бред

Очередного попугая,

Я не желаю вслед за ней…

Я ухожу душою в вечность…

Чем больше знаю я людей,

Тем меньше верю в человечность.

Я — Лев загадочной страны

Людей с печальными глазами,

Где, видя бой со стороны,

Шестерки мнят себя тузами.

И я удачу пас не раз,

Но знал — иная есть дорога.

Чем больше знаю я о нас,

Тем больше понимаю Бога!

Перебирая четки лет,

Я у природы брал уроки.

Причиной наших вечных бед

Я вижу наши же пороки.

Учили с детства быть добрей,

Но мы добрей, увы, не будем…

Чем больше знаю я зверей,

Тем меньше доверяю людям…

The soul sings from musical crucifixes:

Sometimes, forgetting the human language

I am the Lion of the mysterious land

People with sad eyes

Where, seeing the fight from the side,

Sixes pretend to be aces.

And I pass my luck more than once,

But I knew that there was another way.

The more I know about us

The more I understand God!

Going through the rosary of years,

I took lessons from nature.

Cause of our eternal troubles

I see our own vices.

Taught from childhood to be kind,

But, alas, we will not be kinder ...

The more I know animals

The less I trust people...
