Dunkelheit!

Und kein Lichtstrahl mich ersticht!

Samuel:

Es ist kalt, und es schmerzt

Und ich habe Angst um Dich!

Lilith:

Ich verlaß' Dich nicht

Komm', halt mich fest, ich brauche Dich!

Samuel:

Unheilbar…

Lilith:

Voll Kraftlosigkeit…

Samuel:

Zwei Hände…

Beide:

Eine Einheit!

Lilith:

Ein Flackern, das in mir stirbt…

Samuel:

Und ein Auge, das mich nicht mehr sieht?

Lilith:

Die Sonne meines Herzen strahlt

Ihr Schein wird meine Liebe zu Dir tragen!

Samuel:

Doch ich bin allein!

Ein Leben ohne Dich

Wie soll es sein?

Lilith:

Am Anfang stand der Frühling

Und der Schnee, er schmolz entsetzt!

Wie ein Baum in seiner Jugend

Stolz der Morgenröte trotzt:

In den Himmel hast Du mich gehoben

Weit über die Sterne…

Samuel:

Laß' uns nochmal die Träume leben

Ist die Vergangenheit uns ferne?

In der Blütezeit des Lebens

Machte uns der Sommer satt

Selbst als die Welt um mich verbrannte

Habe ich nie ans Grab gedacht!

Muß denn Leben immer leiden?

Ich kann die Qualen nicht verstehen!

Lilith:

Oh Gott!

Vergib mir meine Liebe

Doch ich will nicht von ihm gehen!

Die Blätter fielen von den Bäumen

Denn der Herbst färbte sie rot!

Meine Wangen wurden sterblicher

Geschwängert durch den Tod:

Gefangen in dem Sog

Aus unbarmherziger Vergänglichkeit…

Samuel:

Vergaß ich nie Dein Antlitz

Denn es ist wärmend Endlosigkeit!

So, wie Eva in den Apfel biß

Genossen wir die Frucht:

Lilith:

Belebender Geschmack

Und bittersüßlicher Geruch!

Samuel:

Doch der Apfel ward aus Krähen Hand…

Lilith:

…der Wurm darin die Pest!

Samuel:

Und Gott wollte unser Leben:

Das Paradies gefror zu Eis!

Ewigkeit

Ist der Sturm der Dich bedeckt!

Lilith:

Und es vergeh’n Jahrtausende

Bis man mich darin entdeckt!

Samuel:

In Schutt uns Asche Deiner Krankheit

Werd' ich mit Dir sterben…

Lilith:

Niemals!

Das Feuer brennt die Tränen tot

Und in Liebe ist kein Platz für das…

Samuel:

Verderben!

Lilith:

Und auch ohne mich wirst Du leben…

Samuel:

Und mit ganzer Kraft nach Vergeltung streben!

Und in jedem Schatten werde nach dem Tod ich suchen!

Lilith:

Und mich dann nach deinem Leben wiederseh’n!

Samuel:

Niemals, jetzt hast Du mich gerufen!

Nein!

Wenn dies das Leben ist, dann will ich nicht mehr sein!

Von deinen Küssen wird das Herz mir warm!

Samuel zu Gott:

Niemals mehr wird der Morgentaukristall

Mein Herz beglücken!

Oder Wasser aus dem Lebensquell

Meinen trocknen Mund erquicken!

Selbst das Himmelbett aus Sternen

In die Tiefe es versank:

Geschwärzt sind meine Tage

Und mein Denken ist Gestank!

So spricht Gott zu Samuel:

Wer ist’s, der den Ratschluß verdunkelt mit Worten ohne

Verstand?

Gürte Deine Lenden wie ein Mann!

Ich will Dich

Fragen, lehre mich!

Wo warst Du, als ich die Welt gründete?

Sag’s mir!

Weißt Du, wer ihr das Maß gesetzt hat, oder wer

Über sie die Richtschnur gezogen hat?

Worauf sind ihre

Pfeiler eingesenkt, oder wer hat ihren Eckstein gelegt, als mich

Die Morgensterne miteinander lobten und jauchzten alle

Gottessöhne?

Wer hat das Meer mit Toren verschlossen, als

Es herausbrach wie aus dem Mutterschoß, als ich’s mit Wolken

Kleidete, als ich ihm seine Grenzen bestimmte mit meinem

Damm und setzte ihm Riegel und Tore und sprach: «Bis hierher

Sollst du kommen und nicht weiter;

hier sollen sich legen Deine

Stolzen Wellen!»?

Hast Du zu Deiner Zeit dem Morgen

Geboten und der Morgenröte ihren Ort gezeigt, damit sie die

Ecken der Erde faßte und die Gottlosen herausgeschüttelt

Würden?

Haben sich Dir des Todes Tore aufgetan, oder hast

Du gesehen die Tore der Finsternis?

Welches ist der Weg

Dahin, wo das Licht wohnt, und welches ist die Stätte der

Finsternis?

Kannst die Bande des Siebengestirns

Zusammenbinden oder den Gürtel des Orion auflösen?

Wer

Gibt die Weisheit in das Verborgene?

Wer gibt verständige

Gedanken?

Wer ist so weise, daß er die Wolken zählen könnte?

Wer mit dem Allmächtigen rechtet, kann der ihm etwas

Vorschreiben?

Wer Gott zurechtweist, der antworte!

Willst Du

Mein Urteil zunichte machen und mich schuldig sprechen, daß

Du Recht behältst?

Antworte, Samuel!

Lilith:

Darkness!

And no ray of light stabs me!

Samuel:
