Phantasai, lieb' Phantasai

Entbinde mich des Denkens!

So träufle meine Seel' mir frei

Von Kopf, von Sinn und Weltverstand

Zerspringen soll der Gläser Rand

Ihr Klang den Trümmern Leben schenken

Phantasai, kristallerbaut:

Ich will, dass es mir graut!

Meine Urne fällt und faßt den Raum in schwarze Blüten

Die, verhüllt in dichte Schleier, mich auf meiner Odyssee behüten!

Endlich bricht die Schrift entzwei, das Tor zum Meer ist aufgetan:

In das Licht, gedankenlos, die Probe stellt sein Wissen bloß!

Ist er noch Kind?

— Ihr Edleren, ich will verletzbar sein!

Ist es ihm ernst oder enttäuscht er uns?

— Ich such' nach Träumen jede Nacht!

Er weiß bestimmt… — Ich glaube fest daran…

…nicht, daß das Sehen doch so einfach ist!

— …daß meine Wiege so nicht

Stehen kann!

Das Orchester des Schreckens spielt für mein Grauen auf

Streicht die Bögen auf und nieder wie die Krähen ihr Gefieder

In den rauhreifschwang’ren Weiden, die verliebt wie Ketten rasseln

Und ihr Ächzen wirbelt um mich wie das Laub!

Dort am Ufer dieser Kakophonie trifft mein Blick den ihren

Ahnend flieh’n die Wolken schneller, ihre Stimme wird schon heller

Der Blitze flinkes Silber skizziert Angst in mein Gesicht

Als sie lächelnd und mit Güte zu mir spricht:

«Eine neue Nacht wartet auf uns!»

Sie zerrt mich in die Anderswelt

Fernab von meinen Sorgen!

«Wir fahren heut' zum Himmel auf!

Der Alptraum läßt uns glücklich sein

Für uns gibt es kein 'Morgen' mehr!»

Ich schneide mich auf…

Ich ertränke meine Sehnsucht in dem Blut Deiner Gedanken

Mein Körper spielt deren Melodai

Auf einer Orgel, um die sich Schädel ranken!

In der toten Kathedrale dort, wo Dämonen Rosenasche spei’n:

Sie stand, sie steht und wird noch steh’n

Nach 1000 Jahr’n im selben Schein!

Soll das wirklich alles sein?

Mein Herz steht immer noch nicht still!

Und auch mein Haar ist nicht ergraut…

…Entsetzen ist das, was ich will!

…dass mir das Eis die Lungen füllt!

…dass meine Seele in der Brust gefriert!

…dass meine Augen nicht mehr glasig sind

Und daß mein Nacken den Hauch des Todes spürt!

Falle!

Tiefer!

Schneller!

Laßt ihn heute auferstehen!

Tötet!

Seine!

Ängste!

Laßt ihn jetzt nach Eden gehen!

Er ist noch Kind!

— Ihr Edleren, mich schmerzt der Glanz allein!

Er hat gelernt, die Pracht zu sehen!

— Ich werde brennen, jede Nacht!

Er weiß bestimmt… — Ich glaube fest daran…

…dass all das Träumen doch so einfach ist!

…dass meine Hoffnung geht mit stolzem Schritt voran!

Von Knochenhänden kalt mißhandelt jammern mich die Saiten an

Das Kolophonium berstet, wie die Stufen jener Treppe

Die mich aus dem Labyrinth gebracht, mich in den Tag gerettet hätte!

Langsam sinke ich zum Grunde dieser Phantasmagorie

Katharsis, meine Rettung !

Katharsis: aber wie!

Alle Uhren ticken schneller, meine Stimme, sie wird heller

Ich fasse mir ein Herz, ich schöpfe Mut, den hatt' ich nie

Ich erkenne mich selbst, in mir erkenn' ich sie…

Phantasai, dear Phantasai

Free me from thinking!

So let my soul trickle free

Of head, of sense and common sense

The edge of the glass should shatter

Their sound give life to the rubble

Phantasai, crystal built:

I want it to terrify me!

My urn falls and covers the room in black blossoms

Who, wrapped in thick veils, protect me on my odyssey!

Finally the writing breaks in two, the gate to the sea is open:

Into the light, mindless, the test exposes his knowledge!

Is he still a kid?

— Noble ones, I want to be vulnerable!

Is he serious or disappointing us?

— I look for dreams every night!

He certainly knows... — I firmly believe...

...not that seeing is so easy!

— ...that my cradle isn't like that

can stand!

The orchestra of terror plays for my horror

Sweeps the bows up and down like crows their feathers

In the frost-pregnant willows that rattle in love like chains

And their groans swirl around me like the leaves!

There, on the shore of this cacophony, my gaze meets hers

Anticipating, the clouds flee faster, their voice is already getting brighter

The flash of nimble silver sketches fear in my face

As she speaks to me smiling and with kindness:

«A new night awaits us!»

She pulls me into the other world

Far from my worries!

"Today we're going up to heaven!

The nightmare makes us happy

For us there is no more 'tomorrow'!»

I cut myself...

I drown my longing in the blood of your thoughts

My body plays their melodai

On an organ surrounded by skulls!

In the dead cathedral where demons spew the ashes of roses:

She stood, she stands and will still stand

After 1000 years in the same glow!

Is that really all?

My heart still won't stop!

And my hair isn't gray either...

...horror is what I want!

...that the ice fills my lungs!

...that my soul freezes in my chest!

...that my eyes are no longer glassy

And that my neck feels the breath of death!

Cases!

deeper!

More quickly!

Let him rise today!

Kill!

His!

Fears!

Let him go to Eden now!

He is still a child!

— Your noble ones, the shine alone hurts me!

He has learned to see the splendor!

— I will burn, every night!

He certainly knows... — I firmly believe...

...that all this dreaming is so easy!

...that my hope goes forward with a proud step!

The strings wail at me, coldly abused by bony hands

The rosin bursts like the steps of that staircase

Who would have gotten me out of the maze, would have saved my day!

I slowly sink to the bottom of this phantasmagoria

Catharsis, my salvation !

Catharsis: but how!

All the clocks are ticking faster, my voice is getting brighter

I take heart, I gather courage, I never had it

I recognize myself, I recognize them in me...
