Wieviele sind noch übrig?

Sagt, wieviele sind geblieben?

Von den ewig sinnend Gestrigen

Dem Gottesdasein würdig?

Die Helden, die die Wahrheit lieben

Die Todesnahen, Fiebrigen

Die unfähig zu diesem Leben

Sich in die Hand des Herzens geben?

Wo sind die, die sich heiser schrei’n

Weil sie das Schweigen nicht ertragen

Und morden des Gewissens Willen;

Die Seele der Revolte weih’n

Sich mutig in die Ächtung wagen

Um die Wunden dieser Welt zu stillen?

Die unfähig zu diesem Leben

Sich in die Hand der Freiheit geben?

Zwar sind wir nur die Wenigen

Und wir wissen voneinander nicht;

Doch unser Reich wird kommen

Wenn nur endlich einer von uns spricht!

Heut' Nacht geh' ich nicht mehr heim

Bis dass nicht alle die zum Himmel schrei’n

Die dieses Wort gleich verstehn:

Ich hab' die Lust verlor’n, allein zu gehn!

Dare boldly into ostracism

To heal the wounds of this world?

Admittedly we are only the few

And we don't know about each other;

But our kingdom will come
