Morgennebel schwebt in feinen Schleiern im Scheinwerferlicht

Das sich in sprühenden Tröpfchen wie in Katzenaugen bricht

Rauhreif überzieht das Gras am Straßenrand, die Nacht war kalt

Reifenspuren von den Feldern, sand‘ge Muster im Asphalt

Und im Morgenhauch die Ahnung, daß ein Erntefeuer schwelt —

Nichts mehr, das ich jetzt noch brauche, da ist nichts mehr, das mir fehlt

Paradies!

Hier ist das Paradies!

Ich brauch nicht mehr weiterzugehn

Ich hab‘s mit eignen Augen gesehn

Auf dem Ortsschild steht:

Hier ist das Paradies!

Alte Häuser tauchen aus der Dämmrung auf, geduckt und grau

Was drängte mich von hier fortzugehn, ich weiß es nicht genau

War‘s ein Kummer oder Schmerz, hat mich ein Mißerfolg gekränkt?

Haben mich Geborgenheit und Überschaubarkeit beengt?

Etwas bessres als den Tod — so sagt man — findst du allemal!

Und vielleicht war das Gras wirklich grüner — im nächsten Tal?

Ausgeblich‘ne Ziegeldächer, Fenster müde und verhärmt

Frösteln bis ins Herz und zugleich dies Glücksgefühl, das mich wärmt

Nur, um das zu finden, weiß ich heut, hab ich mich aufgemacht

Hat mich eine tiefe, dunkle Sehnsucht doch ans Ziel gebracht

Mußt‘ ich mein Kap Horn umsegeln und meine Wüsten durchquer‘n:

Ich bin den weiten Weg gegangen, nur um endlich heimzukehr‘n!

Morning fog floats in fine veils in the headlights

That breaks into spraying droplets like in a cat's eyes

Hoarfrost covers the grass at the roadside, the night was cold

Tire tracks from the fields, sandy patterns in the asphalt

And in the morning breeze the foreboding that a harvest fire is smoldering -

Nothing more that I need now, there is nothing more that I lack

Paradise!

Here is paradise!

I don't need to go any further

I saw it with my own eyes

The town sign says:

Here is paradise!

Old houses emerge from the twilight, crouched and grey

What made me leave here, I don't know exactly

Was it a sorrow or a pain, was it a failure that hurt me?

Have I been restricted by security and manageability?

You'll always find something better than death - so they say!

And maybe the grass really was greener — in the next valley?

Paradise!

Faded tiled roofs, windows tired and haggard

Shivering to the core and at the same time this feeling of happiness that warms me

I know now that I set out just to find it

A deep, dark longing brought me to my goal

I had to circumnavigate my Cape Horn and cross my deserts:

I went the long way just to finally come home!
