Кошка в клетке смотрит на крыши

Чуть выше, где рисуют узоры провода,

Вниз, где бегают мыши

И что-то обычно кидают из окна,

И лай собак все тише и тише.

Кошка в клетке жмурится хитро

И точит когти о прутья, где-то родные задворки

И шипение старой конфорки, где-то весна,

И снова рыбой полна река.

И может даже лучше,

Что не знает она,

Что не доживет до утра.

Кошке в клетке нет дела до птиц, ни голубей, ни синиц

Не тронет она никогда и будет всегда

Умыта, согрета, сыта и никогда

A cat in a cage looks at the roofs

A little higher, where the wire patterns are drawn,

Down where the mice run

And something is usually thrown out of the window,

And the barking of dogs is getting quieter and quieter.

The cat in the cage squints slyly

And sharpens its claws on the bars, somewhere native backyards

And the hiss of an old burner, somewhere spring,
