When the light falls upon my failures and my sight gets a little foggy

I go blind enough to turn away from you

I often stumble in my foolishness and I gamble with my eternity.

Like an addict I can’t let go of my desires.

But, if I call you father,

will you call me your son?

And if I run from your love,

won’t you chase me down.

and bring me back to you.

My heart’s beating, it doesn’t fit inside my chest.

I am seeing that you have always known what’s best

I am stubborn, hard-headed like a mule.

Go and soften my rotten filthy mind.

And I wonder why I’d ever waste my time

trying to be a slave to this broken crooked world.

Your words they move like poetry molding me until I made new.

When I called you father,

you called me your son.

And when I ran from your love,

Oh you chased me down.

Oh you chased me down

and brought me back to you.
