Tooth and nail

Take steps forward only to retract,

Strangled in my attempt to escape this trap

No care to awake from a long nights sleep,

In my mind, I’ve lost all peace.

Face yourself after years of work and toil

Realize that life isn’t what you thought it would be

Long to be at rest, buried underneath the soil.

Can’t look on the bright side when your face down in the dirt

Thankless human being with no self worth.

Hateful and prone to spite, I’m a threat to myself

Isolated from the world, I put my loved ones on a shelf

Face yourself after years of work and toil

Realize that life isn’t what you thought it would be

Long to be at rest, buried underneath the soil.

My corpse lies in the dirt, worms feast on broken hopes.

Reaching up, muddy earth, My bones fail to feel the sun.

I see and I hear them speak but I can’t make out their words,

I’ll be six feet under before I can rest assure

That I’ll be free of hopelessness.

Unconvinced, my fingers burn,

Miserable and tired, mind overworked

Cast aside, I peer from the depths.

seething with hate in spite of neglect

With envy, I see those around me progress

Stressing myself while the world’s at rest.

Cursing myself, I’ll never learn

Killing myself to live free of scorn

In my greatest attempts I always fail
