But Joe shipped out the very next week on his shoulder was a B.A.R

Now Annie she’s lived there all of her life and Joe was just passin' through

Now Annie she waited patiently, dreamin' of a life with Joe

A brand new car and some little kids and a home in Kokomo

And Joe was out in the jungle and mud up to his knees

Thinkin' bout Annie down in New Calidonia walkin' in the ocean breeze

Now they both knew they had real love but the love would never come true

Now Joe was a fightin' hero, as a soldier he was one of the best

But on the frontline he got a monkey one time and Joe caught a bullet in the

Now Annie she still holds her pictures of Joe, he’s standin' by his automobile

He’s all decked down in his uniform to Annie he was dressed to kill

And nobody ever told Annie so I guess she never knew
