In het avondlicht dat door de bladeren valt

Haast een man zich door het oude woud

Volgt het pad naar zijn eigen haard

Voordat de nacht in gaat

De schemer breekt door een schim van vuur

Een helder licht in het avonduur

Verschrikt, verbaasd wijkt de man

Van het pad en van zijn plan

Luister naar de stemmen in de nacht

Hoort de roep in de duisternis

Volg geen schim en wijk niet van het pad

In het uur van het dwaallicht

Het dwalende licht

Ziet hem dwalend in de nacht

Betoverd door het zielenlicht

Verdoold, verloren in een wilde jacht

Blind voor 't gevaar dat voor hem ligt

Het moeras opent zich onder bladergrond

Een angstige schreeuw in de nacht verstomd

Verzwolgen door de aard na een hevige strijd

Verloren, zijn verzet ten spijt

In het ochtendgloren, bij het breken der dag

Als de klokken luiden in het schemerlicht

Herleeft het woud rond het graf

Van de man die voor het dwaallicht zwichte

Nu bij het vallen van de avond

In de schaduw van de bomen

Ontsteekt hij zijn eigen licht

Voor de zielen die tot hem komen

A man rushes through the ancient forest

A bright light in the evening

Startled, surprised the man . departs

Of the path and of his plan

Listen to the voicesin the night

Hear the call in the darkness

Follow no shadow and do not stray from the path

In the hour of the will-o'-the-wisp

The wandering light

Sees him wandering in the night

Enchanted by the soul light

Lost, lost in a wild hunt

Blind to the danger ahead

The swamp opens up under the foliage

An anxious cry in the night silenced

Swallowed by the nature after a fierce battle

Lost, in spite of his resistance

In the dawn, at the breaking of the day

When the bells toll in the twilight

Revives the forest around the grave

From the man who gave in to the will-o'-the-wisp

Now at nightfall

In the shade of the trees

Does he light his own light

For the souls who come to him
