Ich war nur der Knappe, ihr Vater mein Herr

Mein Herz für die Tochter entflammt

Und dann eines Tages, es wurde gejagt

Ihr Pferd ging durch, und ich hinterher

Für Stunden allein, es fiel mir so schwer

Meine Liebe war ihr längst bekannt

Und wie der Wind den Sande verweht

Der Liebe uns gaben anheim

Ihre Haut so zart, die Nippel hart

Es zerriß mich fast vor Lust

Des Lebens hell und klar

Ich konnt nicht mehr essen

Nicht schlafen, nicht sein

Als sie zum Traualtar ging

Und doch wars ein Schmerz

Den ich niemals vergess

Als ihren Blick ich auffing

Wie eine letzte Liebkosung umfing er mich

Und doch war sie für mich verlorn

Ich wollt nur noch fort und wurd vom Papa

Zum Kreuzesritter erkorn

So zog ich denn nach Jerusalem

Mit einem stolzen Heer

Doch was ich dort sah, an Tod, Schmerz und Leid

Machte mirs Herze so schwer

Die stolzesten Ritter sanken zu Staub

Verrottet im Wüstensand

Die Sache verraten, geschlachtet für nichts

Wir starben für ödes Land

Als alter Mann nun sitze ich hier

Was ist nicht alles geschehn

Doch die Reinheit der Liebe, die ich empfand

Wird niemald für mich vergehn…

Wenn der Scheit im Ofen singt

Und mir deine Stimme im Ohre erklingt

Will ich füür einen Augenblick

Wieder zu dir zurück

Ist mein Leben ein Schauer nur

Der flüchtig am Himmel zieht seine Spur?

Lass mich noch einmal lächelnd spürn

Doch noch einmal berürn

We died for wasteland

Now I'm sitting here as an old man

What hasn't happened

But the purity of the love I felt

will never be forgotten for me...

When the log sings in the oven
