Es ist nicht zu leugnen,

daß in neuerer Zeit, dem Himmel sei’s gedankt!

der Geschmack an der Musik sich immer mehr verbreitet,

so daß es jetzt gewissermaßen zur guten Erziehung gehört,

die Kinder auch Musik lehren zu lassen,

weshalb man denn in jedem Hause,

das nur irgend etwas bedeuten will,

eine Klarinette, wenigstens ein Cello findet.

Nur wenige Verächter

der gewiß schönen Kunst gibt es noch hie und da,

und diesen eine tüchtige Lektion zu geben,

das ist jetzt unser Vorsatz und Beruf.

It can not be denied,

that in modern times, thank heaven!

the taste for music is spreading more and more,

so that it is now part of good education, so to speak,

to let the children also teach music,

why then in every house,

that just wants to mean something

find a clarinet, at least a cello.

Few despisers

the certainly beautiful art still exists here and there,

and give them a good lesson

that is now our purpose and profession.
