Tango des-astres - Ataraxia

A la dernière foire du village,

j’ai vu quatre hommes qui vivent comme je voudrais vivre.

Leurs grands yeux sont devenus brillants

pendant qu’ils faisaient une musique si surprenante

qu’elle donne envie tantôt de danser, de pleurer,

ou de faire les deux à la fois.

L’un, en traînant son archet sur son violon,

semblait raconter un chagrin,

et l’autre, en faisant sautiller son marteau

sur les cordes d’un petit piano

avait l’air de se moquer de son voisin,

tandis que le troisième frappait ses cymbales

avec une violence extraordinaire.

Enfin, ils ont ramassé leurs sous,

ont chargé leurs bagages sur le dos et sont partis.

J’ai compris seulement alors,

qu’ils ne demeuraient nulle part.

Mais ils se sont endormis,

le front tourné vers les étoiles.

Tango des astres, tango des-astre.

Les enfants se séparent,

chacun allant, à son insu, selon les circonstances

et le hasard, mûrir sa destinée, scandaliser ses proches

et graviter vers la gloire ou vers le deshonneur!

At the last village fair,

I saw four men who live as I would like to live.

Their big eyes got bright

while they were making such amazing music

that it sometimes makes you want to dance, to cry,

or do both at the same time.

One, dragging his bow on his violin,

seemed to tell a sorrow,

and the other, hopping his hammer

on the strings of a small piano

seemed to make fun of his neighbor,

while the third banged his cymbals

with extraordinary violence.

Finally, they picked up their pennies,

loaded their luggage onto their backs and left.

I understood only then,

that they were nowhere to stay.

But they fell asleep,

forehead turned to the stars.

Tango of the stars, tango of the stars.

The children separate

each going, unwittingly, according to the circumstances

and chance, mature his destiny, scandalize his relatives

and gravitate towards glory or dishonor!
